He has written more than 10 books with 8 of them becoming bestsellers. To many, he is known as one of the best salesman of all time. Why is that you might ask? Well, Zig is very engaging and entertaining in his speeches as you can see for yourself in the following video. His skills connecting with other people is what makes Zig so great.

Zig Ziglar’s 10 Rules for Success

1. Have a (big) dream

Zig was born in a small town in Alabama and was never told he would be anything special. When he worked for a company as a salesman someone told him he had what it takes to be the best salesman in the company. From that point on Zig decided to have a dream and do everything he could to reach his full potential.

2. Always think as a champion

Zig Ziglar was part of a huge family, in fact, he was the 10th out of the 12 children. In order to achieve anything great in life, you must think like a champion. You must decide ahead of time that you have what it takes and you can be the best version of yourself. After learning this key point, Zig was able to turn his life around and soon become one of the top salespeople in the United States.

3. Be totally committed

Zig has been very successful because he is 100% committed behind everything he does. Reportedly, he has written 10 books and 8 of them have hit the best sellers list. It takes a lot of effort to write 1 book, let alone 10 books over a relatively short period of time. If you want to be successful at business or any other goal it’s critical that you are committed no matter what it takes.

4. Don’t wait, Do it right now

If you want to be successful then it’s important that you don’t wait around and just start taking action today. A lot of people out there have big plans that would actually work, but they fail to take action. In fact, any action or forward progress is better months of planning. The secret is whenever you take action, you will learn something that will help you in the long run.

5. Be prepared for anything

If you want to be successful you need to accept that fact that you are going to have to be the best. In fact, you might have to work twice as hard to get the same level of success, and you should be ok with that. Make the commitment now that you will do whatever it takes until you’ve realized your goals. Spend more time in the office working and less time playing games.

6. Always keep your word

Sales is all about trust, and it’s critical that you keep your word when dealing with other people. Even when you don’t think it will matter, you should always keep your word out of principle, because most of the time it will matter. If you make it a habit always do what you say, people will recognize that and be more inclined to buy products from you. In sales, people prefer to buy from people they trust so be that person that people have a high degree of trust with.

7. Set goals

If you only take one thing away from this, take away the fact that you must set goals. If you don’t set concrete goals then you will have no direction to guide you. Goals give our life direction which in turn will influence our actions. It’s not only important to set goals, but you must revisit these goals every single day. I like to write my goals down on a piece of paper every morning and every evening. This simple process will reinforce the goal in your mind and therefore it will provide the direction for the actions you must take in order to achieve it.

8. Always evaluate where you are

One of the most critical aspects for success is to always evaluate where you are in relationship to your goals. Self-improvement gurus have always said that you will only achieve things that you actively measure. Therefore, if you want to achieve a certain amount of money per month then it’s critical you set that as a goal, and then measure where you are at in relation to that goal.

9. You must have integrity

Along with keeping your word, integrity is a critical component to having success in life. Whether you believe in karma or not, you basically get what you give in this life. Great authors like Napoleon Hill have talked about the Law of Attraction and how your thinking produces your results. Integrity works the same way and when you do good things, in the end, you will see the results in your life.

10. Read a book every day

If you are looking to grow as a person, you need to pay close attention to the place you are getting your information. It’s critical that you turn off the television and pick up a book instead. There is so much good information out there in different self-help and personal development books that it would take you’re a lifetime to learn it all. Instead, pick your top 10 books self-improvement books and refer back to them often. I have certain books like Think and Grow Rich that I have read 100’s of times. If you make it a habit to read a book every day you will slowly start to change your thinking patterns for the better.
