Jack Canfield is an American born self-improvement author and motivational speaker. Born in 1944 in Fort Worth Texas, Jack is the co-author of the best-selling book series Chicken Soup for the Soul. In 2005 Jack co-authored the book and now online course, The Success Principles: How to Get From Where You Are to Where You Want to Be. One of his favorite questions to ask audiences during his speeches is, “if you could do anything in the world without any limitations or restrictions, what would you do?” Jack loves to ask this question of audiences because he believes this reveals our true self and our true passions. Furthermore, the world likes to put us in a box and limit our creativity. The act of pushing people to ask big questions about their life and their purpose on this planet is the first step to breaking people out of their paradigm. During a speech, Jack explained success as knowing the combination to a lock. In fact, if you know the combination to the lock (success) then your race, gender, and economic background are irrelevant. For over 30 years, he has been interviewing and studying successful people to try and understand why they achieved great things, while the majority of people end up broke and disappointed in life. Jack studied hundreds of successful people from all walks of life including athletes, politicians, and successful business people in an attempt to develop a system to help others achieve their goals. Jack’s book The Success Principles breaks down what he believes are the 64 core principles of success. Within those 64 principles is a core of 8-9 principles that are the base for which everything else is based on. During a recent seminar, he claimed that if you read his book and apply his principles you will easily be able to double your income and double your time off within 3 years. During his early years, he was part of a mastermind group which included legendary self-improvement coach Bob Proctor among others.
How Jack Canfield Defines Success in Life and Business
Jack breaks down success in a few short principles that I will break down here. The first step to being more successful is you must learn to take 100% responsibility for your life and your results in life. The average person views themselves as a victim of circumstance and doesn’t connect his results with his actions and attitude. In order to be successful, you must break with this harmful paradigm and once and for all take full responsibility for your results in life. Sure, there are outside circumstances that will affect your ability to earn money, but at the end of the day, you are the master of your own destiny. A lot of people out there look at the world and think to themselves “if the world was different, I would be better off.” The reality is the world is what it is, and it’s up to us to be responsible for success in our life. In a recent lecture, he said, “life should be approached as a huge experiment, and you keep experimenting until you get it right.”
The next step to becoming a more successful person is to have a clear intention and to state it. The best way to do this is to set goals and refer back to them daily. Goal setting is one of the most overlooked aspects of becoming successful, yet it is absolutely critical if you want to achieve big things in life. Setting a goal gives you life direction, keeps you on track, and raises the standards in which you live by. The third step to success is to have a positive expectation. This goes back to the law of attraction and how we can use the power of positive thinking to create reality in our life. In fact, if you follow all the previous steps but fail to expect success then you will more than likely end up failing. The final principle Mr. Canfield refers to in his success lectures is taking massive amounts of action. It is not enough to simply think good thoughts and have those things manifest into our lives. First, we must think but next we must act on those thoughts until our dreams are a reality. This will take massive amounts of energy and perseverance, but is critical to achieving the outcomes we desire.

Jack’s Top 4 Areas to Set Life Goals
This is the area most people pay the most attention too when setting goals. It’s critical to set a goal and be specific about the exact dollar amount you want to make. The law of attraction tells us that the universe responds best to specific requests, so this is an area you want to be very specific in your goal setting. For example, I want to make $50,000 per month in passive income.
This is where you specifically map out what type of career and job you would like to have. It’s important to be very specific here and write down the exact type of job or career you seek to create. Don’t just write down a job that would make you money, instead, choose something that you will actually enjoy doing. Studies show that people who love their job have a much higher chance of being successful.
The majority of people who make goals do not include things like relationships with their spouse, friends, and children. It’s critical that we include these types of goals into our goal setting process because relationships are a large contributor to a happy life. Examples would include fixing a broken relationship with a child, friend, or even improving your sex life with your significant other. Anywhere you have a relationship that could be improved should be written into your goal setting.
Success isn’t just about making money, but instead how would you like your legacy to impact the world. A big way to increase your success with the how is to decide why you are doing what you are doing. Jack says it’s important to write the specific charities and causes you want to support when you reach certain income levels. As we become more successful in life it’s critical that we give back to our communities.
In conclusion, I put Jack Canfield near the top of the list as one of the greatest self-help gurus of our time. Having worked closely with Bob Proctor for many years, Jack has the knowledge and the experience to help you reach your dreams. In fact, you can think of Jack as Bob Proctors younger protege who took his teachings and improved upon them.
